Robert M. Lewis, founder of RM Lewis Gallery in 1999, has been a San Diego resident since the age of two. Since his early years, he has spent many hours hiking the San Diego County sage brush and Manzanita covered hills and valleys, paying particular attention to the play of light and shadow on the local geography and architecture, and the plants and animals unique to the area. He painted his first oil on canvas before the age of twelve, and by high school had sold several original graphic designs. He has been a photographer since the early 1970's, and has also created more than 500 original works of art. RM Lewis Gallery now focuses attention on capturing photographic images that reflect the unique beauty of San Diego County specifically -- and California in general -- from the awe inspiring beauty of the sea and coastline to the sublime vistas of the mountains and desert. Many of these images are now available in DVD format, which is accompanied by a soothing musical soundtrack that is both uplifting and relaxing, forming a perfect compliment to the images. The photographs preferred by RM Lewis Gallery are candid shots, those fleeting moments that capture the essence of a time or place, which others might not notice during the normal course of their busy lives. An informal "tour" of the area, the DVD -- and selected individual images available for sale -- are chosen to entice those who are not familiar with the region to visit, or to return for another vacation or holiday. It is also designed to encourage local residents to remember or explore the County for themselves, seeing the beauty around them with a fresh eye. A favorite quote from a viewer, also a San Diego resident and artist, was "I'll never be able to see San Diego the same way again." The DVD makes a perfect memento of San Diego County, a multi-media "post card" that can be played again and again for uplifting enjoyment and relaxation. It has also been used as a means of "bragging rights" for those who believe they live in an especially beautiful area that can be sent to families and friends living in another region of the country or world.
